Bruce Metzger, authority on Bible and classics, dies at 93 February 15, 2007

Bruce Metzger, giant among scholars, has died of natural causes at the age of 93. He died Tuesday night of natural causes.

His involvement on committees of translation produced numerous editions of the Scriptures, including the United Bible Societies’ Greek New Testament (1966) and and the New Revised Standard Version (1990).

He served at Princeton Theological Seminary in the George L. Collord Professor Emeritus of New Testament Language and Literature. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Lebanon Valley College in 1935, bachelor of theology degree from Princeton (1938), and doctorate in classics from Princeton (1942). He was an ordained minister with the Presbyterian Church (1939).
